Sarah Davis was the ninth child in the family, she would be joined by two more sisters after her. The exact location of her birth is unknown but the best location looks to be Denton County, Texas since it is known the family was there in 1880. Lamar County is another possibility. Sarah's family left Texas and were in Oklahoma Territory in 1888. The family's whereabouts are unknown between 1890 and 1897 but by 1900 Sarah's father had died and Sarah was living in a town called Farmers, near Cameron, Oklahoma. Her mother had married Francis Matlock; Sarah and three of her sisters, Martha E., Della, and Lula were still at home.
At about this time, Sarah met Henry Sandlin and they were married at Poteau on May 27, 1902. Henry was a farmer, so she lived a hard life and had very little spare time. Sometimes her sister Della's family would come to visit and sometimes Sarah would go to visit Della. She and Henry had nine children, all of who survived adulthood.
In 1930, after their only daughter married, they left Stigler and moved to an area near Poteau. Henry left the family in 1938 when they were living in Wetumka. Sarah and the children moved to Gowen, then Lafayette, where she lived about a mile down the road from her daughter. In about 1946, she and her two remaining sons packed up and left for California. Her youngest sister, Lula was already there and they visited each other again in 1948 at Long Beach.

Sarah met Will Whitfield in Long Beach, California and they were married there. Will was from Anadarko, Oklahoma so they moved to Oklahoma City and lived there near Sarah's oldest son, Quinton. The photo above of Will and Sarah was taken sometime in the 1950's. Sarah's son Irvin also lived with them so Will and Sarah divorced, due to the problems this caused. Will was very highly spoken of and loved Sarah very much. Everyone who knew them said he was very good to her. Will died in 1957.
After that, Sarah's life seemed to go downhill. She came down with cancer; Kirby and Lettie Honeycutt went to Oklahoma City and brought her to Stigler to stay with them. But she became sicker and moved into the Stigler Nursing Home and passed away there. She is buried at Sans Bois Cemetery.
It is said that Sarah was half Cherokee Indian. This would have to have been on her mothers side. She was a very religious person and liked by everyone.
