Narcissa Jane Irvin was born in Lamar County, Alabama. On December 29,1879 she married Benton Sandlin, also born in Alabama. Benton was a farmer. After marrying, Jane and Benton lived in Mississippi for a little over 3 years, then moved to Sebastian County, Arkansas where they settled on a farm there. Not much is known about Jane-only what has been passed down through the Sandlin family. She is described as being very tall and thin with red hair when she was younger.
The photo of her was taken about 1916.
After Benton died at Stigler in 1928 it looks like Jane followed Henry’s family and went to Poteau in LeFlore County, Oklahoma. She is shown in the 1930 census there listed as head of household, age 68, born in Alabama.
Three of her children lived with her: Leona, Luda and Luther, who was a farmer. Jane was buried at Hartford when she died. Her grave is unmarked but if you look at Henry Sandlin’s grave, you are looking at hers-she is buried next to him.
